We’re excited to invite you to be part of Clean Air Day 2026, happening on Wednesday, June 3rd! This national day is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action to protect the air we all breathe and uplift the knowledge, leadership, and traditions that guide us toward environmental and community health.
This year, we are especially focused on supporting community-led, youth-driven, and Indigenous-informed events that speak to the deep connections between air, land, culture, and health.
Clean air is essential to health, well-being, and cultural practices for our Indigenous communities. From land-based activities to seasonal gatherings, the quality of the air we breathe directly impacts our ways of life. Yet many Indigenous communities face ongoing challenges from nearby industry, wildfires, and lack of air quality monitoring. This gathering is a space to explore these issues, share your experience and knowledge with others, and help shape the path forward.
To make your planning easier and more impactful, we’ve created a full set of free tools and ready-to-use resources, including:
Engagement Guide — with suggestions on incorporating Indigenous teachings, community engagement ideas, and how-tos for in-person and virtual formats.
Customizable Posters & Social Media Kits — for sharing across your networks.
Event Promotion Form — so we can feature your event on our website and social media.
Planning something? Let us know so we can:
- Promote your event throughout our communications
- Help build momentum across communities
Protecting Our Air, Honouring Our Land: A Clean Air Day Virtual Gathering Celebrating Indigenous-led Conservation
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, we invite Indigenous Peoples across Canada to a Clean Air Day Virtual Gathering that highlights Indigenous-led environmental initiatives protecting the land and conserving our air.
This event celebrates the proactive stewardship that Indigenous communities have practiced for generations. We are coming together to honour the tangible conservation work currently underway — work rooted in the profound relationship between the health of the land and the breath of its people.
This year’s gathering features First 30x30 Canada, an Indigenous-led initiative supporting Indigenous-led conservation led by Nature For Justice, in partnership with IISAAK OLAM Foundation and Nature Focus Development. This program was created as part of the global 30x30 movement which seeks to protect 30% of the world’s lands and waters by 2030. First 30x30 Canada advances conservation efforts grounded in Indigenous leadership and stewardship. Participants will learn more about the organization’s work and how Indigenous-led approaches are shaping conservation for Nations across the country.
We’ll also welcome representatives from three communities across Canada who will speak to the work they are doing to care for the lands and waters that help sustain us all.
Participants will come together in discussion exploring the environmental initiatives underway in their own communities, with opportunities for information exchange, collaboration, and shared learning.
This is a space for learning, sharing, and highlighting collective action. We welcome Indigenous community members, youth, Elders, and leaders to join us in this important conversation as we work together toward a healthier, more resilient future.
